What is SMP?
Everything You Need to Know About Scalp Micropigmentation
Pigment Application
The actual SMP procedure involves applying specialized pigments to your scalp using micro-needles. This process typically takes place over multiple sessions, each lasting a few hours. During each session, we carefully build up the pigmentation to achieve the desired density and appearance. Our artists pay meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that the pigments are evenly distributed and blend seamlessly with your natural hair. The result is a realistic and natural-looking hairline and the illusion of thicker hair.
Long-Lasting Results
Our advanced SMP techniques provide long-lasting results that can boost your confidence for years to come. With minimal maintenance required, you can enjoy a hassle-free solution to hair loss. Unlike other treatments that may require continuous upkeep or multiple sessions, scalp micropigmentation offers a durable solution that stands the test of time. Periodic touch-ups may be needed to maintain the vibrancy of the pigments, but overall, SMP is a low-maintenance option that delivers enduring satisfaction.
Aftercare and Maintenance
After your SMP treatment, we provide detailed aftercare instructions to ensure optimal healing and long-lasting results. It is important to follow these guidelines to protect the newly applied pigments and promote proper healing. We recommend avoiding direct sunlight, excessive sweating, and certain hair care products for a specified period. Our team is always available to answer any questions you may have during the healing process and provide support as needed. While SMP requires minimal maintenance, periodic touch-ups may be recommended to keep your pigments looking fresh and vibrant.

SMP FAQ's
What is scalp micropigmentation?
Scalp micropigmentation is a non-surgical cosmetic tattooing procedure designed to create the illusion of a fuller head of hair. By applying tiny, layered dots in different hues of black, it mimics the look of a natural hair follicle shadow on the scalp, giving the appearance of closely shaved hair or added density to thinning areas.
How long does the procedure take?
The duration of SMP varies depending on the extent of hair loss and the desired density. Typically, it takes 2-4 sessions, each lasting 2-4 hours, spaced about a week apart, allowing for gradual buildup and adjustment to achieve the most natural look.
Is scalp micropigmentation painful?
Pain tolerance varies among individuals, but most clients report mild discomfort rather than pain during the procedure. Practitioners use topical anesthetics to minimize discomfort, and the sensation is often described as less intense than getting a traditional tattoo.
How long does scalp micropigmentation last?
SMP can last 4-6 years before a touch-up may be needed. Over time, the pigment can fade due to skin exfoliation and sun exposure, but with proper care and occasional maintenance, the effects can be prolonged significantly.
What is the aftercare process like?
Aftercare is crucial for achieving the best results and includes avoiding washing the scalp for a few days post-procedure. Patients should also stay away from direct sunlight, refrain from heavy exercise to prevent sweating, and follow guidelines on moisturizing and avoiding harsh chemicals to protect the new pigmentation.
Are there any risks or side effects?
SMP is generally safe when performed by a trained professional, but potential risks include allergic reactions to the pigment, infection, and undesired color changes. Choosing a reputable practitioner who uses high-quality pigments and follows strict hygiene standards minimizes these risks.
How much does scalp micropigmentation cost?
The cost of SMP varies based on geographic location, the practitioner's experience, and the extent of the treatment required. On average, prices range from $1,500 to $4,000, but it is important to consider this as an investment in a long-lasting solution to hair loss.
Can scalp micropigmentation be removed?
Yes, SMP can be removed using laser treatments similar to traditional tattoo removal, though the process can be more challenging and may require multiple sessions. Removal can be expensive, time-consuming, and potentially uncomfortable, so it's important to be sure of your decision before undergoing SMP.
Will scalp micropigmentation look natural?
When performed by an experienced practitioner, SMP can look very natural, closely mimicking the appearance of a shaved head or adding density to thinning areas. The key is the skillful application of the pigment in a way that matches the client's natural hair color and skin tone.
Who is a good candidate for scalp micropigmentation?
SMP is suitable for men and women experiencing various types of hair loss, including androgenetic alopecia, scarring alopecia, or thinning hair. It's also beneficial for those who want to cover scars from injuries or surgeries, or enhance the appearance of a hair transplant.
Can scalp micropigmentation be combined with other hair loss treatments?
Yes, SMP can be used in conjunction with other treatments. This combination can enhance the overall appearance and effectiveness of the hair restoration process.
What is the downside to SMP?
Fairer clients may be a little red for a couple of days after the procedure, but it goes away very quickly.
Is SMP obvious?
If you choose a skilled artist, then then the results of SMP look very natural and realistic. Most clients choose to undergo a gradual approach per session for the best results.
How realistic is SMP?
Results are very realistic. We've had clients who could not tell the difference between where their natural hair ended and SMP began.
What are the regrets after SMP?
The only regrets clients have had is that they should have done it sooner.
How long does it take for SMP to heal?
On average, it takes 2-3 days to heal depending on a client's immune system.
Who cannot get SMP?
Anyone with active skin conditions such as psoriasis, or eczema, bleeding disorders and keloids. Are pregnant or breastfeeding, and those who have unrealistic expectations are also not ideal candidates for SMP.
How painful is SMP?
On a scale of 1-10, people rate it a '2' on average. There is no bleeding and we are only implementing the epidermis with pigment. Most of our clients fall asleep during the procedure.
Is Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) a tattoo?
Yes! It's a medical tattoo. However, the needles used in SMP are much smaller than a regular tattoo needle. It is a specialized type of nano needle to replicate a hair follicle. Additionally, traditional tattoos penetrate four layers of the skin, whereas, SMP remains within the epidermis.
